The Next Frontier of EHR: Turning Workflows into Intelligence at the Point of Care
By Shannon Pfeffer, Chief Product Officer, Flora Health
As Chief Product Officer at Flora Health, I lead the company's product ecosystem across EHR media, data intelligence, and workflow automation — focusing on turning complex technology into connected, impactful healthcare solutions.
After years of conversations across pharma, health tech, and clinical leadership, one message keeps getting louder: point of care is becoming the new front line of intelligence. We're shifting away from gathering more data for the sake of it and toward activating the data we already have — exactly where clinicians and patients need it most.
From Systems of Record to Intelligent Workflow Systems
Traditional Electronic Health Records were built as systems of record — necessary, yes, but mostly passive. That era is ending. EHRs are evolving into intelligent workflow systems: places where the right insight can appear at the right moment and support the decisions that shape care.
At Flora, we've been building toward this moment for years. As a systems integrator, we sit inside the workflow and the broader health IT stack, helping surface clinical context, education, and affordability information right where providers need it. It's not about piling on more alerts; it's about delivering meaningful insight with purpose and precision.
Precision Access Is the New Patient Experience
Across conversations with access teams and brand leaders, the message is clear: affordability and access support can't stay downstream. Providers need visibility earlier, and patients need clarity faster.
That's where Flora's model comes in. By connecting brand content and financial-support data to EHR decision points, we close the gap between prescription intent and patient access. It's not just a better experience for providers; it's a lifeline for patients who might otherwise abandon therapy because the process was too opaque or too expensive.
Data Activation Over Data Accumulation
Healthcare doesn't have a data problem. It has an activation problem. We have more data than ever — but the real value comes when that data is delivered in a way that informs what comes next, instead of sitting disconnected across systems.
That's what my team is focused on: turning raw data into actionable intelligence that supports real decisions. Whether it's identifying access barriers earlier or aligning education to a patient's specific path, our mission is to make information work harder for the people delivering and receiving care.
Clients want simpler, clearer intelligence they can use to guide their next steps. Insights delivered at a regular cadence can strengthen planning, targeting, and decision-making when they're connected and easy to act on.
Media at the Point of Care: Relevance With Purpose
EHR media has come into its own. What used to be viewed as a small niche channel has become one of the most contextually relevant touchpoints in healthcare.
When done right, point-of-care media doesn't interrupt the workflow; it supports it. Providers get timely, credible information. Patients receive education tied to moments when they're already searching for clarity. At Flora, we see media as more than placement — it's education in motion, delivered in a way that feels natural, not noisy.
Where It's All Headed: Intelligence, Integrations, and 2026
If there's one takeaway for the year ahead, it's this: the EHR has evolved from infrastructure to intelligence. It's no longer just a container for data; it's the conduit for action. The organizations that will thrive in 2026 are leaning into workflow-native intelligence that helps guide decisions, stronger integrations across data, access, and media, and partnerships that reduce complexity and make insights easier to apply.
Because the next frontier isn't "more tech" — it's making tech matter more, right at the intersection of care, access, and impact.
If you're thinking about where workflow intelligence fits into your strategy, let's connect — precise integration is where real impact begins. Because when intelligence meets the workflow, everybody wins.
